A Beautiful Night for a Ball Game, Super Heroes, Fireworks and Tears

Tonight is going to be unlike any night I’ve had because of what I expect will be strong and opposing emotions. I hope you can come!

On one hand, tonight is going to be hard as we gather at the Joliet Slammers game to remember my dad who passed away on June 1st. Dozens of family and friends will be gathered at one of my dad’s favorite places to share stories and a drink. The pain of losing him is still strong. Tears will be shed.

On the other hand…it’s a celebration! We are celebrating everything my dad has done for everyone he knew and the legacy he left behind and we’re doing it for a great cause! The Slammers are donating $5 of every “Dan Jakusz Day” ticket sold. And that’s so awesome!

My dad battled Type 1 Diabetes since he was 14 years old, so it just made sense to donate the money to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

And hey, I know this means more to me and my family than most people, and that’s totally fine. BUT! It’s also Super Hero night and Fireworks night! It is really a great night out for the family.

And shout out to my Uncle Paul, my dad’s brother. He worked with the Slammers to get these custom jerseys made. Brings me to tears because 20 was my dad’s jersey number in everything he played since high school. My brother and I still remember his yellow softball jersey he wore when he played while we were kids. Just another special layer to what will be an awesome night at the yard.

I hope you can make it. Wear blue to support the JDRF.
