A Cozy Afternoon, Just For You

Hi, Leslie Harris in for Nick Jakusz.

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine and I met on a Sunday afternoon and took a walk at Herrick lake in Wheaton. If you’ve never been there, it’s beautiful and there are many different trails that you can take depending on how far you want to walk.

Well it was cold that day, so imagine our delight when we got to the shelter and someone had built a fire in the fireplace! My friend and I sat by the fire for quite a long time, and it was so cozy and lovely. There was even more wood, and fire starter, so we stoked the fire a few times.

I have a fire pit in my backyard, but of course mine is not sheltered like this one is, and there are picnic benches in the shelter.

I don’t know who built the fire, but I would imagine it was someone associated with Herrick Lake. But my friend and I are thinking that perhaps the next time we go, I’ll bring my wagon with some firewood just in case supplies are not provided.

If you’re looking for something to do outside I recommend this hidden gem off of Butterfield Road.
