I had the pleasure of talking with President and CEO of Brookfield Zoo Chicago Dr. Mike Adkesson about the HUGE plans they have for the next 10 years. They call it their New Century Plan. It’s pretty much an entire makeover and reorganization of the entire zoo grounds! Animals will be shifted around into ecological zones. There will be more space for conservation education and much more!

I’m really excited that it seems like the Ferris Wheel will be a permanent installation. They will add an amphitheater, and the backdrop of which will be the stone grottos where the big cats are located now! Keep an eye out for the new zip line, which will also give great views of the area and the skyline.

Oh…and ELEPHANTS will be making a comeback! Dr. Mike says with the added space, the zoo will finally be properly equipped to ensure the safety and well-being of not only elephants, but also Nile Hippos, crocodiles, alligators and other species that haven’t called the zoo home in a while.

I hope you get something out of my interview with Dr. Mike!
