A Refresher On Poison Ivy, Other Dangerous Plants, From the People That Know

I try to get the kids out of the house as much as I can. Usually it’s the backyard or the neighborhood park, but we’ve been known to frequent our local forest preserves on occasion as well (and not just in the warmer months!).

Whenever we hit the trails though, I constantly find myself scanning the area to the side of the path.

“Max! Stay in the middle! I don’t want  you to get poison ivy!” I’d say.

My paranoia may be SLIGHTLY dramatic, but can you imagine life with a five year old nursing a poison ivy rash? I tremble at the thought.

Thankfully, the good folks at the Forest Preserve District of Will County shared an article about how to recognize the dreaded vine, going a bit more in depth than the “leaves of three, let it be” expression. While accurate, there is a bit more to watch out for.
