Are Supergroups really that super?
So when you think of supergroups some big names come to mind – Asia, Bad English (side note John Waite will be at the Arcada theater on March 23 – get ticket info on our River concert page.) but there are a lot of supergroups that are often forgotten as well.
Rolling Stone ranked the top ten Super Groups a couple years ago and this is what they came up with.
10 – Bad Company (Free, Mott the Hoople, King Crimson)
9- Audio Slave (Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine)
8 – The Highwaymen (Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson)
7- Mad Season (Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Screaming Trees, The Walkabout)
6- Blind Faith (Cream, Traffic, Family)
5 – Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (Byrds, Hollies, Buffalo Springfield)
4- Them Crooked Vultures (Nirvana, Queens of Stone Age, Led Zepplen)
3- Temple of the Dog – (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam)
2- Cream (Yardbirds, Graham Bond Organization, Manfred Mann)
1- Traveling Wilbury’s (Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne and George Harrison)
I couldn’t agree more with their choice for number 1. Traveling Wilbury’s rule! So what do you think of Supergroups and which one has been your all time favorite?
