A happiness expert says women are better off without a spouse and children. Paul Dolan is the author of Happiness By Design.
During a talk last weekend, Dolan said, “Married people are happier than other population subgroups, but only when their spouse is in the room when they’re asked how happy they are. When the spouse is not present: f—ing miserable.”
His theory is that middle-aged married women have a higher risk of developing mental and physical ailments than single women. Dolan also says married women tend to die sooner.
He says there are a lot of benefits for unmarried women without kids but society tends to pity them: “You see a single woman of 40, who has never had children – ‘Bless, that’s a shame, isn’t it? Maybe one day you’ll meet the right guy and that’ll change.’ No, maybe she’ll meet the wrong guy and that’ll change.”
Do you think he’s right or is he full of it?
