Aurora Families Lose Homes After Apartments Deemed Unsafe

30+ Aurora families (including women, children, elderly and disabled) may be homeless today after less than a weeks notice after their building was deemed to be unsafe and inhabitable.

The apartments, located in the old YMCA building on Garfield Avenue, received a number of building code violations over the years.

The Chicago Tribune says that Garfield Aurora and Wheaton-based T2 Capital Management had a hearing Thursday to discuss the code violations and it was reportedly confirmed that the locks on the building will be changed today.

The apartments and management company are scheduled for another hearing Sept. 12.
