Volkswagen is to stop producing the Beetle, bringing to an end the model’s 80-year history. The company has been making a version of the Beetle called the Final Edition at a single factory in Mexico. The last one will roll off the line today. Designed during the Nazi era in Germany, the Beetle became a post-war motoring icon and sold millions around the world. When The Beatles broke up we all thought or hoped at least that they’d get back together. Oh certainly they would! But No, it didn’t happen. I’m even noticing less Beatles music on the radio. There is a Sirius/XM Beatles channel. The only problem with that is I don’t have Sirius/XM. Now there’s a new movie (Yesterday) that portrays a world without the Beatles except for one guy who seems, some how, to know all their songs. What’s the deal with all this Beetle/Beatle backlash? I’m very confused. The Volkswagen Beetle (I had one how bout you?) was as iconic a bit of transportation as anyone can ever imagine. The Beatles were far and away the biggest influencers of modern culture in the past 120 years. What they did, said, where they went, how they lived and their music has had a lasting effect on us all. If someone says they don’t know The Beatles they’re kidding themselves. Ya don’t have to have liked them (although I find that inference to be quite bazaar)!
I guess all I can say is: “Help me if you can I’m feelin’ down, And I do appreciate you being round
Help me get my feet back on the ground, Won’t you please, please help me.”
