Hi, it’s Rich Dale! If you love hot dogs, you may not want to read this.
According to a study by the University of Michigan, “Eating a hot dog could cost you 36 minutes of healthy life, while choosing to eat a serving of nuts instead could help you gain 26 minutes of extra healthy life”.
Well, what would that mean for America’s most famous hot dog eater?
If the study’s claims are true, then Joey Chestnut, winner of 14 of the last 15 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contests, who has devoured an estimated 19,200 dogs since his championship run began — roughly 1,200 per year — has already trimmed 1.3 years off his lifespan!
But think about this — if you eat a serving of nuts for every hot dog you eat, the hot dog only takes ten minutes of healthy life from you. So if you stuff yourself with nuts, you can eat as many hot dogs as you want and still live to about 150!
Uh, don’t quote me on that.
