Birthday Parades Turn Frowns Upside Down

Right now, we are right between my daughter’s birthday and my son’s birthday. Macy just turned 2 and Max will be 4. Try telling them that they don’t get to have a party. It was probably harder for me to tell them, because to be fair, Max (the four year old) handled it pretty well. That doesn’t mean we didn’t want to do something special, so my wife reached out to a Lena Jumper, who runs the Facebook group Covid 19 Birthday Quarantine Parades!.

Lena gathers up a bunch (safely – social distancing and all) of people and they process slowly past the house of a family who had a child celebrating a birthday. I can tell you from first-hand expirience, that is creates a truly special moment amidst the chaos.

Thanks to her background as a paramedic and emergency dispatcher, Lena is uniquely equipped to organize and execute these types of things!

I spent about 10 minutes talking to her about why she decided to get this going, the ups and downs of the process, and her experience. And no, this isn’t the first time I’ve cried on the air.

Thanks to Lena and everyone else working to put smiles on people’s faces. If you are looking to start a group like this one, I suggest you email Lena to get her advice – [email protected].
