Can’t We All Just Get Along?
Hi, Leslie Harris here.
Remember that one day last week when it was 70°? I was sitting at a red light with my windows open, and the radio turned up, as you do when the weather is great. The guy next to me yelled something to me through the window.
“What?” I asked, and the guy again yelled something to me. I finally turned my radio down and asked him again.
HE MADE A POLITICAL JEER!
I have one political bumper sticker on my car, and he was complaining about the person on my sticker. I was stunned. I started laughing and said,
“Really? Can’t we just try to get along with each other?” The guy kept yelling and I just kept laughing, asking him if we could just agree to disagree.
When he pulled away I said, “Have a great day, I love you, bye!”
There are plenty of bumper stickers that I disagree with, and you know what I do when I see them? I just keep driving! There are way more important things in life, like trying to get along with our neighbors.
Nothing that guy could have said to me would have changed my mind, and nothing I could have said to him would have changed his, ESPECIALLY yelling at me through our car windows!(This also goes for people arguing on social media, but I digress)
I’m all for having intelligent discussions and listening to each other’s points of view, but this is not that. This was akin to an angry old man shaking his fist at the sky.
So let’s try to show each other a little more kindness, and if you can’t do that, just move along. We’ll both be happier.
