Apparently just about anything is on the table when it comes to the redevelopment proposals for Arlington Park… including a Chicago Bears Stadium!
Redevelopment proposals are being received and reviewed for the 326 acres that are currently home to Arlington Park and Tom Hayes (mayor of Arlington Heights) says anything could be possible… including a Chicago Bears Stadium or even live horse racing in some form.
The idea of a Bears stadium in Arlington Heights isn’t a new idea. You might remember back in the 70’s, team founder George Halas wasn’t happy with Soldier Field in Chicago and the city’s cooperation over a new stadium so he started talking about a stadium next to Arlington Park. They actually really started getting into conversations about it, but the falling interest rate market killed the deal.
Since then, the Bears have considered deals in Hoffman Estates, Elk Grove Village, Warrneville, Naperville and Aurora!
But back to Arlington Heights… the mayor isn’t really telling anyone how many plans he has heard, but he says conversations are underway and he expects information to come out sometimes soon (maybe even sometime this summer) about the possibilities.
Interested parties are trying to meet Churchill’s June 15th deadline to submit initial offers.
