Do you remember the first time you heard one of your favorite bands?

So this is a tough one … I honestly can’t remember the first time I heard a lot of my favorite bands… the first time I heard Queen, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac … no idea. Even my favorite eighties bands … Duran Duran, The Cure, The Smiths … cannot remember the first time I heard them. However there is one band I remember hearing for the first time very distinctly and I will tell you the reason why.

I used to be a huge fan of the TV show SCTV (Second City Television) It was a Canadian sketch comedy show that ran in the late seventies and early eighties. Huge names came out of that show. Names like John Candy, Eugene Levy, Rick Moranis, Catherine O’Hara, Harold Ramos and Martin Short. So one night I was watching SCTV with my Mum and all of sudden the below video came on. (If you haven’t seen this one … watch it and you will realize why we were confused.) My mum and I spent the whole time going “Is this a skit? Is this a band?” We were so confused. BUT we both loved the song … so once I found out it was a band called the Talking Heads … I kept my eyes and ears open for that band.
