Dolly Wants to Give Books to Your Kids.

Hi, it’s Leslie and Dolly Parton has been promoting reading among kids since 1995, when she founded the Imagination Library. She started off by giving books to kids in Sevier County, Tennessee where she grew up, but the program is now offered in five countries including the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, Austria and Ireland. The foundation currently sends out 2 million books per month.

Now every child in Illinois will be eligible to receive a free book every month, from birth until their 6th birthday, regardless of the family’s income. The program has increased reading readiness in kindergarten children by 29%, and Braille and bilingual books will be offered.
