Dozin’ With the Dinos

If you have the opportunity, I highly suggest you book a ticket for Dozin’ with the Dinos, the only chance you’ll have to spend the night at the Field Museum.

The tickets for my son and I were a Christmas present from his great-grandparents and the request that we don’t get anymore toys.

Parking was a cinch in the North garage of Soldier Field before my son, my brother and my nephew checked in and scoped out a spot to blow up our air mattresses. We had the “premium” tickets which allowed us to sleep in the “Evolving Planet” exhibit, where most of the dinosaur fossils can be found. Unfortunately, the prospect of sleeping in those dino areas was a bit too much for the younger members of our group, so we had to set up shop near projections screens of pre-historic ocean scenes.

After we set up our spot, we pretty much had the entire night to explore of the of the world’s great museums! We went from Ancient Egypt, to Underground Adventure. From Maximo to SUE. From the Hall of Birds to the Hall of Gems.

There were activities and projects for kids to partake in and special presentations from museum staff. There was even story time near the end of the night which was a big hit.

The funniest part of the night for me was an interaction I had with a younger girl by the name of Payton, thought it wasn’t as funny for Payton! She came up to me and complimented me on my night’s attire, which you can see above. I responded by saying “Thanks a lot, Payton.”

At that moment, I could see Payton was pretty freaked out! “How does this nearly-middle aged man in a dinosaur costume know my name?!” she probably said in her head.

She started to walk away, but then came back to me and said with with the utmost concern, “Did you just say Payton?!”

You should have seen the look on her face when I told her it was on the back of her shirt! I’ve never seen anyone so relieved!

I’m told Dozin’ with the Dinos sells out ever time, so get your tickets now for a date in the future. You won’t regret it!
