The annual ICDI (Illinois Community for Displaced Immigrants) Gala is our biggest fundraising event of the year. This year, we’re celebrating our continuing drive in our mission and our legacy of welcoming asylum seekers, advocating for freedom from detention, and standing in solidarity with immigrants as they start their new life in Chicagoland: a New Beginning for each and every asylum seeker. This event will bring together the entire ICDI community: supporters, partners, volunteers, participants, and staff. This is a time for us to gather, remember the importance of our work, and commit to the challenges ahead.
Keynote Speaker Representative Garcia is the current Congressman of Illinois’ 4th Congressional District and the first Mexican-American elected to Congress from the Midwest. For almost 40 years, Chuy has been a progressive community leader and public servant in Chicago.  Known for his extensive work fighting for the rights of immigrants, Chuy is a known and respected leader throughout Chicago and the nation.
ICDI is excited to announce a musical performance by the group voted the “Best International or World Music Act” in the Chicago Reader; the Chicago Immigrant Orchestra is the gala’s featured musical guest. The ensemble provides an opportunity for musicians in the immigrant community to participate in cultural exchange through shared musical ideas. Each member brings their own knowledge and tradition to the table, exploring the relationships and differences among these traditions and creating a unique yet cohesive tapestry of cultures. The Orchestra refers to itself as “One orchestra, a world of music!”
