Everything is Extra This Year

Hey it’s Leslie Harris, filling in for Mitch Michaels all this week period happy turkey week!

In addition to getting ready for Thanksgiving, we had to go and get my daughter from college on Saturday. Now when my older one came home for Thanksgiving break, she just took the bus or the train. Not so for this one.

The biggest obstacle is that she has a cat. Do you know how expensive it is to take a cat on a train a bus? I don’t know what the exact amount is, but it’s almost as much as taking another human. Also, she’s not going to go back until January, since all of her classes are online anyway.

So, she brought home two suitcases, her desk, her laptop plus two monitors, a small plastic dresser with all of her toiletries, the cat in his carrier… I thought I had taught this kid to pack lightly! But for 2 months, I guess I want her and her cat to have all of the comforts of home, as well as being focused on her school work. Sitting at her desk definitely helps her do that, as opposed to sitting on her bed or a couch.

Fortunately, her school is only about 2 hours away, so we were able to get it all done in one day. She got her negative COVID-19 test result back Saturday morning, so my husband and I headed down there Saturday afternoon.

Do you have kids coming home from college, or have you already gotten them? How much extra are you having to do this year? Let me know in the comments
