The family of an Aurora woman who was shot Saturday during a carjacking is asking for the community’s support as she faces a long road to recovery.
Kim Weibring, a 47-year-old mother of two boys, was eating in her SUV Saturday afternoon at the Wendy’s on Orchard Road in Aurora when several men opened her door, put a gun to her head and forced her to the ground. One of the men then shot her in the lower back before they fled the area in her red 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe (which Aurora police have since located).
Kim was taken to a local hospital Saturday afternoon in critical condition before being transferred to a Chicago-area trauma center. She underwent the first of several surgeries earlier this week, the start of what doctors have said will be a “difficult and challenging rehabilitation process.” Family members say Kim is “optimistic and remains upbeat that she will walk again, but now faces spending the rest of her life in a wheelchair.”
The GoFundMe page is seeking to raise nearly $350,000 (the average annual costs for the first year of treatment and other expenses after a spinal cord injury). If you’d like to help this local mother of two, visit the donation page HERE.
