Well, those of you who wished summer away, here we are! The season’s first sub-freezing temps are set to descend on to much of the area tonight. The more west you live, the more likely you are to see temps below 32 degrees.

The National Weather Service issues the Freeze Warning for Boone, McHenry, De Kalb, Kane, and Kendall Counties in effect from 2:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

The good news is that the weekend looks pretty nice, as long as you don’t mind chilly weather!

Saturday will see some wind, but otherwise Sunny with a high of 52 (and a low of 40). Sunday will be very similar to Saturday.

Time to fire up those furnaces!
