Many students have access to free or reduced lunches during the school year, but things change a bit for them during the summer months. Kids in Aurora will be able to recharge with free healthy meals at several locations throughout the city this summer!
The Northern Illinois Food Bank’s Summer Meals Program (in partnership with the City of Aurora and Meals on the Move) runs now through Aug. 9.
The Summer Meals van will make the rounds on weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with stops at the following locations:
9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.: Garfield Park
10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.: Martin Luther King Park
12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.: McCarty Park
1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.: Blackhawk Park
3 p.m. to 4 p.m.: : Garfield Park (Monday and Wednesday), Sage Crest Apartments (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday; residents only)
The free summer meals come in boxes filled with lunch items and snacks. The menu rotates daily and features such items as flatbread pizza, grilled chicken salad, sun butter sandwiches, and nachos.
No registration is required to take advantage of the free meal program, but those who participate must eat their meals on-site.
