So here we are day 26 of the government shutdown. That number of 800,000 workers affected is a bit deceiving because that number is just the people employed by the federal government. It doesn’t take into consideration their families, their wives and husbands, their children and maybe their parents not to mention all the people they do business with. Their grocery store, drug store, restaurants and other merchants they frequent on a daily basis. And of course there’s all the people who do business with the all federal agency’s that are closed. Farmers needing the Dept. of Agriculture to name just one, but how bout the Food and Drug Administration? You know the folks who inspect our food for safety sake! Maybe you haven’t been affected by the shutdown yet so we checked with some experts and they had some advice on what foods to avoid during the shutdown. When asked what foods he won’t eat during the shutdown, food safety attorney Bill Marler said, “I would say anything you aren’t controlling yourself, so any fresh, uncooked products on the market place,” such as ready-to-eat salads and prepackaged sandwiches, or meals that aren’t cooked. His list: “Sprouts, leafy greens, ready to eat products like cheese, ice cream. I would be especially suspect if you’re a pregnant woman, children, people with a compromised immune system. I would stay away from it completely.” “Consumers should continue to have confidence in those brand names that they trust and the willingness of companies to do the right thing in providing them with safe food.”
Please end the shutdown!!
So we post this warning: Eat At Your Own Risk!
