Ford Is Patenting a System That Snitches Speeding Vehicles to the Police

Ford’s slogan “Built Ford Tough” may be evolving to “Built Ford Tough . . . on Crime.”

Ford is trying to patent a system they developed that would automatically report speeding vehicles to the police.  Not the Ford vehicles themselves . . . but they’d use their onboard cameras to snitch on OTHER drivers.

An equipped Ford vehicle could send a report with speed data and pictures directly to law enforcement and roadside monitoring units.  The cops would also get GPS info to help track the offender.

This TOTALLY seems like something Buick would do . . . but Ford?

For now, they’re just trying to secure the patent.  They haven’t installed the technology in any vehicles.  And even if they do add it, there would surely be a legal debate . . . since an officer wouldn’t be there to witness the violation.

There are already stationary speed cameras . . . but they can only issue tickets based on a license plate number, because they can’t confirm who is driving.
