Get Used to Seeing a DH in the National League…At Least For A Little While

Personally, I’m a fan of the DH. I enjoy having nine hitters in a line-up, Madison Baumgartner notwithstanding. That doesn’t mean I’d like to see the National League adopt it! I enjoy having the the difference between the leagues, and having AL pitchers hit in NL-crossover games.

However, those who’ve long called for a Designated Hitter in the National League are likely to get their wish, at least for a little while, according to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman.

He reports the Players Association is expected to approve a universal DH rule for the modified 2020 season as it continues to work toward a broader agreement to get all other bats swinging.

It’s a move that would spare pitchers unnecessary miles as they navigate an unusual season structure. Word is that it wouldn’t last past the 2020 season…but, anything can happen!
