Great News For People Who Like to Breathe
Hi this is Leslie Harris, and sometime this spring or summer, we’re going to start seeing those pretty little brown moths that are so destructive. They strip plants and trees, and will eat just about anything that is leafy and green.
They’re called Gypsy moths or spongy moths, and Geneva is one of 11 Northern Illinois towns that will be organically treating for these non-native pests.
Low flying planes will be spraying a substance made of vegetable oil and wax. The Department of Agriculture says that no pesticides will be used, and there is no threat to residents. In fact it’s not even a threat to the moths themselves, but it deters them from breeding.
The spraying will take place around June 21st or 22nd.
I absolutely love this idea, and I hope more towns adopt this approach
