Yep, it’s true. The day we use to celebrate trees started a long time ago in a state we don’t really think of when we think of trees!

Did you know we have a close connection to the man who started the holiday?

Arbor Day started in Nebraska City, NE in 1872 by a man who’s name MAY sound familiar to you: J. Sterling Morton. He’s the father of Joy Morton, the founder of Morton Salt in Chicago and the Morton Arboretum in Lisle!

J. Sterling served as Secretary of Agriculture back in the day, so love of the land runs in the family!

Nebraska is so proud of this, they literally have it on the welcome signs! That’s me about a decade ago when I lived in the Cornhusker State.

Happy Arbor Day!
