Happy belated birthday to the world’s oldest golden!

03Hey everyone!  Let’s give August the golden retriever a round of applause — or should it be “a-paws”.  This senior pooch has recently become the oldest known dog of her breed in the world.

August received the recognition on the GoldHeart Golden Retrievers Rescue Facebook page after celebrating her 20th birthday in April. The average lifespan of a golden retriever is 10 to 12 years.   August, aka “Augie”, was born when Bill Clinton was president (Wow, I hardly remember that!) and has been in several homes before her current home with Jennifer and Steve Hetterscheidt in Oakland, Tennessee.

Just think, if we believe the way dog years are usually calculated, that’s like a human being 140 years old!  And it’s 56 years older than the usual maximum age for her breed!

To celebrate the milestone, Augie enjoyed cake and took plenty of photos.
