Happy Divali!

Hi this is Leslie Harris in for Mitch. Happy Diwali!

Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights. It lasts for 5 days and it is the beginning of the Hindu New Year.

The word Diwali means row of lights in Sanskrit. It’s no mistake that so many religions and cultures have a festival of lights at this, the darkest time of year.

During Diwali, many Hindus honor the goddess of wealth Lakshmi. They light candles and lamps, and leave the lights on all night so that Lakshmi can find their home to bring blessings for the coming year.

Diwali also celebrates the triumph of good over evil. It’s a joyful celebration to have fun with your friends and family. Some people will exchange gifts and eat a feast, watch fireworks and wear new clothes.

If you have friends who are Hindu, take a moment to wish them a happy diwali, and remember to be extra kind to each other over the next few days
