Healthy Snacking in the New Year

Hi it’s Leslie Harris, and one of the most common things that people decide to do in the new year is to get healthier, and I’ve got some easy tips for you.
Many of us have been told that we should not be snacking in between meals, but some doctors are now saying that snacking is good. I do intermittent fasting. We can talk about that another time, but during my eating window, my doctor actually WANTS me to eat snacks.
The main thing to remember about snacks is to choose healthy foods. Many American adults will eat a candy bar, or even just a handful of chips, but all of that can add up to an extra 500 calories worth of snacks. That’s like eating another whole meal!
So if you feel like noshing on something, be sure to choose low calorie foods. You could have some chopped veggies with hummus, a piece of whole grain toast spread with a bit of avocado, or an apple spread with some peanut butter or almond butter. All of these have protein and a bit of healthy fat, which will make you feel fuller, longer, and won’t spike your blood sugar. By the way, those blood sugar spikes can also wreak havoc with your weight.
Keep healthy snacks handy so they’re easy to grab, and you don’t end up grabbing the chips instead.
