Here Are All the Bands That Don’t Want Donald Trump to Use Their Music…So Far
When you’re a Republican politician in America trying to pick out music to use in campaign videos and at live events, you’ve pretty much got Kid Rock, Ted Nugent, and the majority of country artists. Step outside that bubble, and you’re risking a lawsuit. Or at least an angry letter.
I’m not here to say who’s right or wrong or take any sides here. It is interesting, though, to see how it all shakes out!
ABBA is the latest act to ask Donald Trumpto stop using their music. The band AND Universal Music issued a statement asking him to cease and desist immediately.
Meanwhile, Jack White is threatening a lawsuit after Donald used the White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army”. He even called Trump a fascist, and dragged him for the recent incident at Arlington National Cemetery. I don’t really follow politics very much, so I had to look that one up myself.
Anyway, if you’re keeping score, here’s a list of all the musicians who’ve asked Trump to stop using their music.
So far, it’s:
ABBA, Adele, Aerosmith, A-Ha, Beyoncé, Bruce Springsteen, Celine Dion, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Earth, Wind and Fire, Eddy Grant, Foo Fighters, Free, Guns N’ Roses, House of Pain, the estate of Isaac Hayes, Johnny Marr from the Smiths, Linkin Park, Neil Young, Nico Vega, The O’Jays, Ozzy Osbourne, Panic! at the Disco, Pharrell Williams, R.E.M., Rihanna, The Rolling Stones, Twisted Sister, the Village People, and the White Stripes.
It’s important to know that just because the artists don’t like it, doesn’t mean Trump has broken the law. Copyright law can get complicated, and it has to do with buying the rights to use it, not just permission from the artists, so know knows! Politics is a dumpster fire anyway, this is just another dumpster.
