Here’s something to make you feel young!

About a month and a half ago, Kane Tanaka of Japan turned 117!  Happy belated birthday, Kane!  She lives at a nursing home in Japan and had already been declared by Guinness to be the oldest living person in the world.  She was born on January 2, 1903.

The world’s oldest man on the other hand, is a mere 112 years old.  He is Chitetsu Watanabe of Niigata, Japan.  He became the world’s oldest man because the previous one, another Japanese gentleman named Masazo Nonaka, died last month.  Chitetsu says his secret is to keep smiling.

That may be good advice, but the obvious common thread here is telling me that the real secret is to BE JAPANESE!  No wonder The Vapors declared they were “turning Japanese”.  They just want to live longer!  Not to mention that all of these people mentioned seemed to be in good mental shape too.

I’ve always told my kids I plan to live to 200, so we’ll see how that goes.  I don’t have any Japanese blood, so I’m not super-optimistic at this point.
