Want to sound smarter? It’s easy. Just play dumb.

According to a series of studies out of Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton business school, the best way to make people think you’re smarter during small talk is by asking them for advice.

And it’s because we’re all egomaniacs.

The researchers found that when someone asks us for advice, we instantly assume they’re smart . . . because they have the WISDOM to recognize we really know what we’re talking about.

So instead of rattling off YOUR knowledge or YOUR accomplishments, the best way to make someone think you’re a genius is to listen to their advice and ask sharp, relevant questions.
