Honoring and Blessing Our Companions This Weekend

Hi, this is Leslie Harris, and I grew up Catholic. Even though I don’t practice Catholicism anymore, I have a special affinity for St Francis, the patron saint of animals.

As you may know, I am a big animal lover, and very involved in animal rescue. October 4th is the feast of St Francis, and many area churches are performing pet blessings this weekend. Here are just a few:

On Saturday October 1st at noon, you can have your pet blessed at our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Eola Road in Aurora.

On Sunday October 2nd at 9:30 a.m. you can bring your pet for a blessing to Aldersgate United Methodist Church on Blanchard Street in Wheaton.

Also on Sunday, Lord of Life Lutheran Church on 75th Street in Darien will have a pet blessing at 11:30 a.m.

What other organizations are offering pet blessings this weekend in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi? Let us know in the comments!
