Banker JPMorgan Chase has just settled a class-action lawsuit that will force the bank to pay $5 million to men who weren’t given equal paid time off to care for their newborn children as the primary caregiver. The bank has also changed it’s parental leave policy to be gender neutral.
The settlement stems from a lawsuit filed by a man who asked for the 16 weeks paid parental leave that JPMorgan offered to female employees after the birth of a child. JP denied him the leave saying “men, as biological fathers, aren’t assumed to be primary caregivers.”
It is 2019 and we are seeing a growing number of dads stepping up as primary care givers (in comparison to 10-20-30+ years ago), so this was bound to happen eventually.
