How to win at ANY New Year’s Resolution
Hi it’s Leslie Harris. Many people have already broken their New Year’s resolutions. If that’s you, don’t get discouraged! Pick yourself up and try again. Here are some tips that will help you keep those resolutions.
First and foremost, give yourself a break. If you fall off the wagon, get right back on there. You can do this.
Research shows that it’s much easier to keep a positive goal than a negative one. For example, instead of saying “I need to lose 20 lb,” try saying, “I can’t wait to buy myself some new clothes in my new size.” Make it something measurable and attainable. It’s great to say something like, I’m going to feel better, but how will you measure that?
For example, if it takes you 30 minutes to walk a mile you could say, “I will walk a mile in 20 minutes by June 1st.” This way you’ve got a clear, specific and measurable goal.
Another way to help you achieve your goals is by setting micro goals. If you’re finding it hard to get out of the house to take that walk, can you at least put your gym shoes on every day? It might sound silly, but if you are able to achieve that goal, then the next step will come a little easier. If your goal is to save money, can you start by saving $1 a day? You could even use a piggy bank for this, and at the end of the month, deposit the $30 into a savings account. Month two, you could save $2 a day, and so on. Baby steps, Baby!
