I Spent My Sunday With My Head in the Clouds!
It was rescheduled from earlier in the summer due to inclement weather, and thankfully, the Joliet Airport Fest had a GORGEOUS day on Sunday.
My family and I spent the entire day there. Checking out the really cool planes, watching the kids jump in the bounce houses, eating from some awesome food trucks, and generally enjoying the day. Planes were constantly taking off and landing as we sat near the runway.
The climax of the entire thing for us was my three-year-old son asking to take a helicopter ride! I didn’t think he would enjoy it, let alone beg us to go. So, we did, and he loved it! It was a short flight – maybe 5 minutes – but we were able to wear the headsets, talk to the pilot, and check out the suburbs from 500-feet up. You can even see the Chicago skyline as clear as day!

They even had a pancake breakfast to raise money for the Boy Scouts…and a rotating griddle!
It was a very cool event, and I hope more local airports do their own versions for all the communities around the area.
