Nick here, and if you live or work in the southern suburbs like I do, there’s a very important meeting coming up regarding the safety of one of our most traveled interstates.
On Thursday, Jan 11th, R.U.S.H. will be hosting a town hall meeting that is open to the public and will bring together members of several Illinois transportation agencies and invited local elected officials to discuss what immediate and long term options are available to make Will County highways safer.
There will be a few very important people addressing the meeting:
Randall S. Blankenhorn, the Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation; Mary Craighead, the Transportation Analyst for the Illinois Economic Policy Institute; and Marc Poulos, the Executive Director of the Indiana, Illinois & Iowa Foundation for Fair Contracting.
The following topics will be covered:
• Widening of I-80 from Rt. 30 in New Lenox to River Road in Minooka
• Replacing aging bridges over the Des Plaines River on I-80 and I-55
• Funding of area Interstate and infrastructure improvements
State senators and mayors from areas that I-80 runs though will also be in attendance, but they will only be there to listen.
Here’s some background.
I sincerely hope you can share this information with anyone who uses I-80. Let’s who IDOT and our local authorities exactly how important this is!
