Illinois Numbers Aren’t Actually Dropping. No, Really.

Hi, it’s Leslie. You’ve heard it time and time again. People are leaving Illinois in droves, and the 2020 census proves it!

Well guess what? It turns out that the census for Illinois was actually off by 2%. Now that might not sound like a lot, but we actually added over a quarter of a million people, bringing our State’s population higher than it’s ever been.

Most of us know people who have left Illinois, but we might not have met our new neighbors who have just moved in from other States.

Unfortunately, this means that we have lost a congressional seat, and millions of dollars in federal funding, and nothing can be done to rectify it until the next census in 2030.

The pandemic is being blamed for the error.
