It’s Small Business Saturday!

Hi this is Leslie Harris, and today is Small Business Saturday. It’s a day that has been set aside to help support our small, locally owned businesses.

Yesterday was Record Store Day, a day to help out a specific kind of small locally owned business, record stores. Several artists put out special edition vinyl, and I was able to pick up a copy of ‘1971: The Road Starts Hear, a never released album of early material from Aerosmith. I found it at
Purple Dog Records, a great little record shop in downtown Naperville. My husband and I also popped into a brand new store called Standard Goods. They’ve only been open a few days, and they’ve got lots of fun clothing and gift items.

Small businesses are a vibrant part of our community. Can you imagine how boring it would be if every town in Illinois had the same stores, instead of these unique gems? Plus we’re supporting our neighbors at the local level, instead of large corporations.

So many of our small, locally owned businesses got hit hard during the pandemic, so let’s get out and support them, especially today on Small Business Saturday.

What are some of your favorite, locally owned, small businesses? Let me know in the comments
