When a band forms, it’s usually a liquid affair. Personnel changes, sound changes, and names change.

Rolling Stone has a fascinating article today that recounts what some of our favorite classic rock bands could have been called if they didn’t change their names to what we know today!

Here are some of my favorites:

Naked Toddler became Creed

The Golliwogs became Creedence Clearwater Revival

The Polka Tulk Blues Band became Black Sabbath

Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem became Red Hot Chili Peppers

Pud became The Doobie Brothers

The Salty Peppers became Earth, Wind and Fire

Soft White Underbelly became Blue Öyster Cult

Screaming Abdabs became Pink Floyd

Wicked Lester became KISS

Mr. Crowe’s Garden became The Black Crowes

Sweet Children became Green Day

The Pendeltons became The Beach Boys

Atomic Mass became Def Leppard

Smile became Queen

Mookie Blaylock became Pearl Jam

Tom and Jerry became Simon and Garfunkel
