Hi this is Leslie Harris, and if you grew up in the western suburbs, you’ll be excited to know that a favorite childhood destination is returning for a couple of weeks. Sort of.

I grew up in the northwest suburbs, and I never got to go to Dispensa’s Kiddie Kingdom in Oakbrook Terrace Illinois. (although I still remember how they sanng that at the end of the commercial)

For 2 weeks only, starting today November 2nd, and continuing through November 16th, you can check out an exhibit that celebrates the history of Dispensa’s Kiddie Kingdom and Castle of Toys at the Oakbrook Terrace Historical Societiy’s Sears Homart Home on 16th Street. The exhibit will be open from 3 to 7 on Mondays through Thursdays, and from 1 to 3 on Saturday, so you have time to get there today!

Dispensa’s Castle of Toys was once the largest independent free-standing toy store in the world and it was on Route 83 near Roosevelt Road in Oakbrook Terrace. They also had an amusement park. Some of the original toy soldiers will be at the display.

Admission is free, and donations are happily accepted. For more check out https://obthistory.com/
