Let’s Swap Some Seeds!

Hi, this is Leslie Harris, and tomorrow is national seed swap day, and the Aurora area libraries have a great event planned. I keep thinking that one of these days I’m going to start gardening, but I just don’t know where to start. This event is for people like me, but also for avid gardeners.

From 10:00 to noon tomorrow morning you can stop by any of the branches of the Aurora library. It’s like a potluck with seeds. You bring some seeds if you have them, but even if you don’t, you can take home new seeds to try. You can bring seeds that you’ve gathered, or seeds that you bought, and heirloom seeds are especially appreciated. I always want to know what seeds are native to our area, and which ones will grow best.

You’ll also be able to talk to Master gardeners from the University of Illinois extension service, and talk to other area gardeners.

National seed swap day is held in January so that you have time to start your seeds inside before planting them outside in the spring. Find out more about Aurora’s seed swap day HERE
