LGBTQ History To Be Taught In Illinois Public Schools

Comes July 20, 2020, Illinois public schools will be required to teach students on the history of the LGBTQ community in the US and in Illinois.

On Friday, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed House Bill 246 making the subject a teaching requirement in Illinois public school starting next year. The bill states that “the teaching of history shall include a study of the roles and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in the history of this country and this State.”

There are additional mandates included in the bill… those for the history of several groups including African Americans, Irish, Hispanic and Asian Americans as well as illegal deportation during the Great Depression.
