So with River Prom happening in just a few days … I have been very reflective about my own eighties prom and high school in general.   So I thought tonight’s music challenge could focus on all the great songs written about those teen years that we wandered the high school halls.   Let’s face it … teen angst is such a great subject for a rock and roll tune.   Some of the greatest rock tunes have been written by our favorite bands when they were teenagers themselves.  Obviously they are just writing songs about what they know… their lives.  School, crushes, unrequited love.   (and apparently hot teachers) Some songs (like the one below) were written more from memory.   I mean the Ramones were well out of high school when they wrote this one but artists like Taylor Swift wrote some of her best selling tunes while in high school and they were filled with lyrics like this …”

She wears high heels
I wear sneakers
She’s cheer captain and I’m on the bleachers

(I had Erin from the Rivers Office help me find this song … I don’t know Taylor Swift songs very well and she has a daughter … See today is Administrative Assistant day and there is no end to the many different things our lovely Erin does!!)
…and I always loved the lyrics to John Mayers song No Such Thing … it gives a big shout out to high school.
Well I never lived the dreams of the prom kings
And the drama queens
I want to run through the halls of my high school
I want to scream at the
Top of my lungs
I just found out there’s no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you’ve got to rise above
But for my song I went with the Ramones because … well the Ramones.
