I might understand now how hoarders get to be hoarders. Say your dad bought a comic book in 1939, and it had a kind of goofy branding — “Marvel Comics”. In 1940, he was spring cleaning and out it went. Fast forward to 2022 and it sells at auction for $2.4 million! If only he had saved it and passed it down to you!
Yep, the first-ever Marvel comic book, Marvel Comics #1, sold for $2.4 million at an online auction last Thursday. The comic features the first appearances of the Human Torch and Sub-Mariner.
While the buyer’s name has not been revealed, they have been described as “an extremely passionate comic book collector and investor.” Tell me about it.
Now I wish I had saved all those Dennis the Menace comics I read as a kid.
