No Mow till Mother’s Day!

Hi, this is Leslie Harris and I’m guessing that you, like me, are a big fan of the environment. Can you hold off mowing your lawn for just a few more weeks?

No Mow till Mother’s Day is a campaign that was started a few years ago. I first saw the lawn signs popping up in Westmont, but I know that Lombard and Franklin Park also participate.

The reason is that beneficial insects, like pollinators such as bees and butterflies, are still hibernating in the grass and fallen leaves. If you can wait until at least Mother’s Day, or maybe even a little later, you’ll give those pollinators a better chance at survival. Being mowed over pretty much kills those chances.

So let’s all do our part to help the environment, and allow yourself to be a little bit lazy this year. The bees and butterflies will thank you.
