I’m at a bit of a loss to describe the experience I had recently at the Goodman Theatre. It’s Leslie Harris, and I recently attended the premier of St. Nicholas, and no, it’s definitely NOT about Santa Claus.

It’s a riveting one man show starring Brendan Coyle of Downton Abbey. He plays an unnamed theater critic, an alcoholic, a miserable Soul whose only joy in life is tearing down the artists he reviews. He meets some charming people, who turned out to be vampires. Yes vampires. He gets tangled up in their world, which has such a profound effect on him that he begins to view his own life in a different way.

I know this all sounds really strange, but it’s really a fascinating piece. Go see it in The Goodman’s Owen Theatre, now through January 27th
