Our Fox Valley Anniversary Weekend Getaway

My wife and I had always planned on going to Mexico for our 10 year anniversary. That occasion was this past weekend. While we didn’t quite make it to the beautiful shores of Cozumel, we did have a really great time spending a few days in Geneva and St. Charles.

Since it was a special occasion, we stayed at the swanky Hotel Baker in St Charles. It was my first time there, and we loved the historic nature of the building which turns guests into swanky members of the 1930s elite.

Saturday we spent the day in Geneva making our own personal scents at Scentcerely Yours where I injured my neck! How fun! I wish there was a better story, but just as we were getting up to leave, I felt a pain between my shoulder blades which continues to irritate me! We made stops at a few other locations in downtown Geneva, like Harvey’s Tales and the All Chocolate Kitchen (I never realized how many places there are in Geneva to get chocolate!) before our amazing dinner at Copper Fox! I had the carne en papas (beef cap steak with chipotle hollandaise and salsa verde) and my wife had the schnitzle pork chop..and then I had some of the schnitzle pork chop as well. Both were friggin’ awesome. Highly recommend.

After dinner, we enjoyed a night cap back up in St. Charles at Pollyanna for some beer cocktails and live music.

We woke up and did brunch back down in Geneva at Craft Urban…and OH MY GOD the sticky buns. Just get the sticky buns. Loved the whole vibe here.

Before we wrapped up our Fox Valley adventuring, we did some axe throwing at Splinters in St. Charles. What a FUN way to end our little trip. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but my wife was a pretty damn good axe thrower! It’s not surprising because I’ve seen her shoot guns before, and she was really good at that too. I suppose she’s just very talented with deadly weapons in general. It’s comforting to have someone around to protect me.

As things start to open up again, I hope you can also take advantage of what is available in our own area!
