A classic horror movie from the silent-film era will be re-released with a soundtrack by Radiohead.

The 1922 vampire film Nosferatu will be synced with music from Radiohead’s albums Kid A and Amnesiac, and released to independent and drive-in theaters with a release date of October 4th. The only theater in Illinois (as of the time of publishing this article) is Hollywood Blvd. in Woodridge! They will screen the Nosferatu/Radiohead mashup on Oct. 4th and Oct. 8th!

The website for Silents Synced lists Illinois as a state that will have movie theaters participating, but I have no seen which theaters specifically.

It’s the first project from ‘Silents Synced’, which also has plans to sync silent films with music from other classic alternative bands.

Don’t think of this as a movie-going experience with some music. It’s described by the creators as a communal music experience above anything else. More like a listening party with visuals than a movie with a new soundtrack. Well…just listen to creator Josh Frank talk about it.

What a cool concept, right?! The idea is to use this brand new, very creative musical experience to get people back into small, independent movie theaters for something you’ve never seen, or heard, before! It’s old, silent movies…that rock!

Other silent movies getting synced to classic alternative music include R.E.M + Sherlock, Jr (1924); They Might Be Giants + The Cameraman (1928); Pixies + Buniel and Dali (1929). Pearl Jam is also on the list of artists to be remixed with a slient movie, although the title has not been released yet.

As soon as we hear more, we’ll let you know!
