Remember The Golden Globes?

Hi this is Leslie Harris. Remember when the Golden globes was the most fun awards show to watch? There were several reasons for this, I think the biggest one is probably that there was a lot of drinking going on during the show, and you never knew when someone was going to deliver a hilariously drunken acceptance speech.

The Academy Awards are just also more serious than the Golden globes ever were. So how did we miss The Golden Globes this year? I didn’t even realize that the nominations had been announced, much less that the awards were being given out last night. Did you?

Well because there was no Golden Globes telecast this year, in fact, the winners were announced last night via social media. This was not due to covid, but instead due to the fact that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has come under fire for some shady practices. They’re working on getting that straightened out. I hope they do, because the Golden Globes is one of the only awards shows that I really enjoyed watching. In the meantime, here are a highlight of some of the winners from last night’s announcements:

Best motion picture, went to The Power of the dog (I started to check this one out, but it looks too depressing. I usually don’t like depressing movies, but I may give this one a shot)

Best actress in a motion picture, drama: Nicole Kidman, Being the Ricardos. This one is on my list of ones to watch

Best actor in a motion picture, drama: Will smith, King Richard. This is also on my watch list.

Best motion picture, comedy or musical: West Side Story. Also on my list. What can I say, I haven’t watched a lot of movies this year.

Best actress and emotion picture, comedy or musical: Rachel Ziegler, West Side Story

Best actor in a motion picture, comedy or musical: Andrew Garfield, Tick Tick…Boom! Hey, I just watched this one Saturday night, and I really liked it. If you liked Rent, check out Tick Tick…Boom!

Best director, motion picture: Jane Campion, The Power of the Dog

Best supporting actress in a motion picture: Ariana DeBose, West side Story

Best supporting actor in a motion picture Kodi Smit-McPhee, The Power of the Dog

Do you think they got it right? Which movies did you see in 2021, and would you recommend them or not? Let me know in the comments.
