243 years ago today, the Continental Congress voted to adopt the Declaration of Independence. Yes there was music in 1776, but it sure wasn’t rock & roll.

Many songs relate to the 4th of July and/or American independence. Do you have a favorite?

One of mine was first released in late 1968, but wasn’t a hit. Following the success of The Joker, the song was re-released in 1974 and almost made the Top-40 charts (peaking at #49).
